Group size: both small, one with a minimum
Neither company runs a coach. Hamlet Tours caps every tour at 16 in a 16-seat minibus and says its tours are guaranteed to run even if only one person books. Ophelia Tours also works with small buses, up to 16 on the summer day, but warns on every castle tour that a departure with fewer than six bookings is likely to be cancelled, with your money back and usually another date offered. If you book Ophelia Tours, keep a second date in your trip that could take the castles day instead.
The days of the week
This is where the choice is often made for you. From November to February the Hamlet Tours day runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Ophelia Tours’ October-to-December version is listed for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and its January-to-March version for Wednesdays and Saturdays. In December 2026 the two booking calendars split the week like this: on a Wednesday or Friday only Ophelia Tours runs a castles day (Hamlet Tours adds 23 and 30 December); on a Tuesday or Thursday only Hamlet Tours; on most Saturdays both; on Sundays neither.
Mondays are the exception to watch. Kronborg is closed on Mondays in November and December 2026, and Ophelia Tours’ Viator calendar leaves those Mondays out, apart from Monday 28 December, when Kronborg opens 10:00 to 16:00. Price
On GetYourGuide in our October 2026 check, Ophelia Tours’ full day was the cheaper of the two, US$150 against US$208 for the Hamlet Tours day. On Viator the order turns: US$199 for Hamlet Tours’ Grand Day Trip around Copenhagen, US$208 for Ophelia Tours’ October-to-December winter day. Both companies price in their own currency, Hamlet Tours in kroner and Ophelia Tours in euros, so the dollar figure on a booking site moves with the exchange rate and the season. Both include the entrance fees and neither includes lunch.
Winter
Each operator changes the day in a different way when the season turns.
- Hamlet Tours keeps the Viking Ship Museum and turns Roskilde Cathedral into a photo stop outside from November to March. The museum is open every day of the year, 10:00 to 16:00 from 19 October to 30 April.
- Ophelia Tours keeps the cathedral visit and drops the Viking Ship Museum from October to March. Its winter day is a guided visit to Kronborg, two hours in Hillerød for Frederiksborg and lunch, and a guided visit to Roskilde Cathedral, about nine hours in all.
